Creative Self Managing Learners

In our class we have a making table where children use materials supplied in any way they choose. This gives them time to be creative, self manage and also be flexible learners working with others.

Below are some ideas the children have created.

Children also learn through making 3D constructions with animals, blocks and lego.

Room 5 was very fortunate to have Sinadi's father Kerman come to school and share with us pictures and information about their culture Sri Lanka.

We learnt about the jobs that people do and what Sri Lanka trades with other countries.

We learnt this and so much more!

Afterwards we chose a partner or 2 and recorded everything we had learnt about Sri Lanka. 

The Year of the Rooster

We made our Rooster by collaging all the separate parts together. Then we added strips of paper from magazines for his tail and feathers. Finally we could pastel parts of its body to make them stand out. We put a lot of effort into making our Roosters and chose our colours so that all Roosters were different.

A Friday Morning in the Life of Room 5 in 2017

Making hands and feet for our Me characters that display all the information about ourselves. We had to work together and trace our hands and feet onto cardboard before cutting them out. This was a big task and needed lots of hand power!! 

Making the arms and legs that attach to our bodies. We had to concertina the card to make the legs have movement.

approx the same size as we are. On this we have displayed information about ourselves, our families and where we come from. We have also artistically collaged the shorts and  t-shirts and made our own faces using pastel. This has been a 6 week project but most of 'us' are complete now.

Other people in our class were publishing their stories or testing their spelling buddies.

Others of us having running record testing with the teacher...........and following this we had our Mandarin Lesson taken by Mrs Rolle. 

Phew!!! all of this before lunchtime.
